Sometime you need to wonder about the quality of a new movie when its makers feel the need to go on a gimmick filled promotional spree. In the case of Zoolander 2, the movie is only now being filmed and we are a year away from its release.
This might ring alarm bells among some people in the movie industry. But let’s hope, for Stiller’s sake anyway, that this is not the case. His last few movies have either been box office duds or were panned by the critics or both.
While not appearing in person, he did show up in a promotional video from Paramount while in character as his alter ego, Derek Zoolander. “‘Zoolander 2′ is going to drop like a giant bomb — only a good bomb where that explodes with all this money that you can keep, ” he said.
Stiller certainly knows how to butter up a crowd. He told the audience, “It’s great to be at Comic-Con. You’re like the Justice League with your superpower being exhibiting movies.”
“You probably remember the documentary they made about me, ” Stiller, 49, said about the first Zoolander film. About the second film he said, “It’s going to blow the multi right off your plexes.”
In other “Zoolander 2” news, Billy Zane will be reprising his groundbreaking role from the first film where he played himself.
Stiller, as usual, made the announcement via Instagram. A video clip shows what appears to be Owen Wilson as Hansel from behind reading a newspaper. You think that it is him due to the blond wig the man is wearing. In a voice over, Stiller as Zoolander asks “hey Hansel. Wouldn’t it be cool if Billy Zane was in Zoolander 2?” The camera then reveals that the man in the wig is actually Billy Zane who then says, “Yah, that would be great.”
The posting came with the caption, “Hansel has some #Zoolander2 news about @billyzane.”
