Cooper was most recently seen playing Howard Stark in another television show based on a comic book. On “Agent Carter, ” a miniseries set just after World War II, he played the father of Tony Stark – AKA Iron Man – who is played by Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel movies.
Seth Rogen tweeted about his show’s new addition, “We have Jesse Custer! @dominiccoop is gonna save our souls.”
The Preacher comic book series was originally created in the mid-1990s by Steve Dillon and Garth Ennis and tells the story of a tough Texan Minister, Jesse Custer, who gives up on religion, whilst gaining the ability to get anyone to bow to his command, with some often hilarious and often gory results. Published for more than five years on a monthly basis, the final issue of the Preacher was released in August, 2000.
Rogen and Goldberg have said about this project, “It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right.”
The show is set to premiere sometime in 2016.
