The son of a middle class Jewish family from Florida was recently reported as dating Carey after her split from husband Nick Cannon. But the two are apparently just best friends forever or something like that.
Ratner told Entertainment Weekly, “It’s a little bit about how music can take you back in time. It will be everything you hope a Christmas movie with Mariah Carey would be.”
David Diamond and David Weissman, who have both worked with Ratner before, will write the screenplay.
Meanwhile Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment will also produce a movie based on Ben Mezrich’s upcoming book “Once Upon a Time in Russia: The Rise of the Oligarchs— A True Story of Ambition, Wealth, Betrayal, and Murder, ” for Warner Bros.
Due out in July, the book tells the story of Russian oligarchs such as Boris Berezovsky and Roman Abramovich.
Mezrich has already seen 2 of his books turned into movies. “The Social Network” was based on his The Accidental Billionaires and “21” which starred Kevin Spacey as a university professor who uses his math student to count cards in blackjack was based on his book Bringing Down the House.
Ratner is set to direct “Beverly Hills Cop IV” due out in 2016. He has produced 7 films due out in 2015 alone. These include a documentary about Chuck Norris called, “Chuck Norris vs Communism” and an untitled movie with Warren Beatty.
