Jeffrey Katzenberg Scores $54 Million with ‘Home’ Opening Weekend

The studio has endured several flops, including “Turbo” and “Mr. Peabody and Sherman.”


DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg finally won one. “Home, ” about an alien race that relocates all of Earth’s population(how very Gush Katif), save for one little girl, made $54 million first weekend out, when expectations had been for $30 to $35 million, Variety reported.

It’s one of DreamWorks’ biggest debut since 2012’s “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, ” which opened with $60.3 million.

“Home, ” the only film DreamWorks is releasing this year, cost $130 million to produce and opened in 3, 708 theaters.

“Home’s” opening weekend audience was 60% female and 57% under the age of 25.

“Get Hard, ” the R-rated prison comedy with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, came in secondwith $34.6 million in 3, 175 theaters. It cost only $40 million to produce. The crowd was 54% male and 61% over the age of 25.
