Adam Nimoy told Variety, “This will be a tribute to my dad and Spock. We have plenty to work from because my dad loved telling stories and he was very fond of the role.”

He also explained that he wanted to make the film with his father when the elder Nimoy was still alive saying, “He felt as if he had plenty of time, but then he declined precipitously. I was struck with the outpouring of affection for him after he died, so this feels like the right thing to do.”

The documentary is due to be completed in time for the 50th anniversary celebrations for Star Trek in September 2016. The show first premiered in September 1966.

Born in 1956, Adam Nimoy had directed thirty episodes of a variety of television series to date. This includes two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
