Marc Jacobs Says Goodbye to Marc by Marc Jacobs

It sounds a bit like Mini-Me from Austin Powers (not that Marc Jacobs, who is probably a mentsch, is anything like Dr. Evil. And his clothes don’t cost a million dollars), but that was the issue: Marc by Marc Jacobs was not meant to be a Mini-me version of Marc Jacobs, but its own entity. Given some disappointment with the brand, it is going to be discontinued.

The vision that inspired the creation of the special brand Marc within Marc Jacobs was that the found Marc Jacobs “believed that fashion could exist at lots of different prices.” He noticed people where cheaper brands like American Apparel together with Prada. However, Jacobs doesn’t think the Marc line was successful, and explained, according to WWD, “It wasn’t supposed to be a second line, or a poor relative of.”

However, at the main Marc Jacobs brand, things have been revving up after a beginning of the year campaign involving shots with nine popular models: Anja Rubik, Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Jessica Stam, Natasha Poly, Issa Lish, Adriana Lima and Anna Ewers. They were sporting the plain-faced, shaggy haired, military style that is signature Marc Jacobs.
