Cubs President Theo Epstein Furious with Scott Boras over Team’s Prospect

“Kris Bryant’s development path has absolutely nothing to do with ownership, period.”

Chicago Cubs head Theo Epstein is feuding with the man who is possibly the most powerful sports agent of all time, Scott Boras. The two are at war over the team’s plans for prospective Cubs future slugger Kris Bryant.

The big question that baseball fans across America and the experts have been asking is whether or not the Cubs plan to bring Bryant up to Chicago after the completion of spring training at the end of the month or if they will want him to get some more experience in Triple A minor league ball.

Boras believes that the kid should make the team already, but the Cubs are said to be planning on sending Bryant back to the minors in April.

“You are damaging the ethics and brand of Major League Baseball, ” Boras told USA Today. “Kris Bryant has extraordinary skills. Kris Bryant is a superstar. He has distinguished himself from all players at every level he’s played. Everybody in baseball is saying he’s a major-league player ready for the big leagues. I have players call me. Executives call me. The Cubs’ people want him there. Everyone says, ‘They cannot send this guy down.’ It’s too obvious.”

“This isn’t a system choice. This isn’t a mandate. This is a flat ownership decision. Do they really want to win here?”

An angry Theo Epstein shot back to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, “Kris Bryant’s development path has absolutely nothing to do with ownership, period. As with all our baseball decisions, I will determine where Kris begins the 2015 season after consulting with members of our baseball operations staff. Comments from agents, media members and anybody outside our organization will be ignored.”

For the record, in 23 pre-season at bats Bryant has 10 hits, six home runs, and nine RBIs.
