Sen. Cruz Explains Away his ‘Your World Is on Fire’ Debate with 3-Year-Old

Cruz noted that he polls very well in the 3-6 demographic.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, as part of both his presumed presidential run and his effort to explain away his encounter with a 3-year-old girl in New Hampshire.

Over the weekend, Sen. Ted Cruz was interrupted during a speech to a group of Republicans in Barrington, by a 3-year-old girl, who kind of heckled him, in the middle of his anti-Obama tirade.

According to the Concord Monitor, Cruz was criticizing the President’s foreign policy, when the girl, known only as Julia, sitting on her mom’s lap in the front row, cut him off.

“The Obama economy is a disaster, Obamacare is a train wreck and the Obama-Clinton foreign policy of leading from behind — the whole world is on fire, ” Cruz was saying.

At which point, the girls exclaimed: “The world is on fire?”

“The world is on fire, yes, ” Cruz told her. “Your world is on fire.”

The crowd laughed, and then the senator continued: “But you know what? Your mommy’s here and everyone’s here to make sure that the world you grow up in is even better.”

Interviewing Cruz, Seth Meyers confessed that when he read about Cruz’s remarks, “at first I got excited, because I thought maybe you’re coming around on global warming, but that’s not the case, right? Because I think the world’s on fire, literally.”

Cruz got told his side of the story about matching wits with the girl in New Hampshire — Cruz believes she now thinks he is a fireman, like Marshall on the Nick Jr. show Paw Patrol.

Cruz noted that he polls very well in the 3-6 demographic just for knowing that bit of trivia.

“I think, in the end, ” Meyers said, “that girl’s problem isn’t anything more than that her mother doesn’t know what 3-year-olds like to do on a Saturday. ‘Let’s go watch a senator talk!’ I hope she got ice cream there and on the way home.”
