Sarah Silverman has put her two cents worth in for next week’s Israeli elections. The comedian turned dramatic actress has formally endorsed the country’s left wing Meretz Party.
That settles it. Israel’s Meretz party will certainly now win the elections there.

The 43 year old tweeted yesterday, “ISRAEL! If you are a Meretz supporter you NEED to VOTE MARCH 17. Every vote counts. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.”
In Israel people vote for parties and not people. A political party is apportioned a number of seats in its 120 member Knesset proportional to the percentage of the vote which it receives so every vote really does count and margins of victory do matter.
This is not the first time that Silverman has involved herself in politics. In 2008 she famously made a video begging her Jewish grandmother in Florida – and by extension all Jewish grandparents – to vote for Barack Obama. And no one is ever surprised when a Hollywood celebrity takes a liberal or left wing political position.
The question is, how many people in Israel even know who she is and will her comments even matter? It’s not like she is on the level of fame as say Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie.
And in general it is not clear why any celebrity thinks that just because he or she is famous then people should be swayed by their political statements.
But if it does then maybe Binyamin Netanyahu is busy trying to get one of this year’s Oscar winners like Patricia Arquette or Julianne Moore to endorse his Likud Party.
