Former Brooklyn borough president, Marty Markowitz says Brooklyn hosting the Democratic convention is not a question of if, but when. And he thinks “when” will be for the 2020 election.
However, Markowitz has proven he can be patient, and the waiting can be reminiscent of his having waited as a kid for the Brooklyn Dodgers to win a World Series, as he reported to the New York Post.

Still, losing out to Philadelphia for 2016 was disappointing, but Markowitz has his sights set for 2020. He thinks Brooklyn will inevitably host the convention: “Sooner or later–I believe it will be sooner, ” he said according to the New York Post. “They’re going to select Brooklyn, because Brooklyn’s story is America’s story.”
Marty Markowitz is now the vice president for borough promotion and engagement for NYC and Company. He disagrees with the choice of Philly, but he is not bitter, nor is he reticent about how he feels about the prospective candidate, Hillary Clinton, “The decision was political, ” he told the Daily News. “I don’t think it was the right decision. However, it doesn’t mean for a moment that I will not be enthusiastically supporting the candidate of our party for the next President of the United States. And I hope she will be fabulous. Without a question, she’ll be fantastic.”
