Apple has to have its fingers in every pie, and this time, it wants to beat Netflix at its game, and wants to recruit HBO to do it.
Apple is teaming up with HBO to overtake Netflix as content king. Syracuse University professor Robert Thompson told Bloomberg that this strategy will be a winner as long as “HBO keeps delivering stuff like ‘Game of Thrones, ‘ which is like a millennial’s dream come true program. All I have to do is mention those three words: Game of Thrones to my students and I get a pretty powerful response.”

Time Warner Cable will be delivering HBO to Apple, so consumers no longer need the traditional cumbersome cable packages. Netflix has been following HBO’s lead with high quality programming, and its own hits Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. However, Playstation and Xbox could steal some of Apple’s HBO thunder, unless, as Thompson suggests, Apple could create an exclusive agreement with HBO.
If it isn’t already clear, Apple seems ready to take over the world. Carl Icahn has called it the greatest stock in a decade and a no brainer of an investment. It already has a market cap bigger than the GDP of all but 18 countries in the world, and the sky seems to be the limit for the super company, which is twice the size of Microsoft and and Google.
