Scarlett Johansson is having legal problems. Her new band called Singles which she formed with Haim’s Este Haim, as well as musicians Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris, and Julia Haltigan might be sued by another band which claims that it had the name first.

There has been a local Detroit band known as Singles for more than a decade now. Its publicist confirmed that they sent Johansson’s Singles a cease and desist order to stop using their name.
The original Singles Band’s founder Vince Frederick said in a statement, “I woke up one morning and learned from the news that our band name was literally just taken by someone else as their own. It’s hard to believe that any musician would do something like that to another band. The Singles has been my life for the past 16 years. We have worked so incredibly hard to make it a success.”
“I don’t understand it, ” he said. “Our band, the Singles, has an account on nearly all social media sites, and our music is available in record shops, on iTunes, SoundCloud and other websites. Just a simple search on Google would have revealed that ‘the Singles’ was already a band name being used by another pop/rock band — our band.”
Scarlett Johansson’s band only just released its first song last week.
The question for the lawyers to answer is what exactly under the law constitutes a trademarked band name.
Meanwhile the 30 year old blonde bombshell says that she was not bothered by all of John Travolta’s touching of her at the Oscars last week. While back stage posing for photographs the 61 year old actor camp up from the side and held and kissed Johansson on the cheek.
To many people this looked a lot like a sexual assault.
But Johansson told AP, “There is nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta. The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome.” That still photo does not reflect what preceded and followed if you see the moment live. Yet another way we are misguided, misinformed and sensationalized by the 24-hour news cycle. I haven’t seen John in some years and it is always a pleasure to be greeted by him.”
