Israel’s Valens, a developer of HDBaseT technology and founding member of the HDBaseT Alliance, and Avago Technologies , a supplier of analog interface components for wireless, wireline, storage, and industrial applications, announced a collaboration on an HDBaseT fiber transmission solution.
HDBaseT is a connectivity standard for whole-home and commercial distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. The cornerstone of HDBaseT technology is 5Play, a feature set that converges uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals through a single LAN cable.

The two companies stated that their new collaboration will deliver DBaseT video over 800 meters of multimode fiber (MMF) cable. Based on Valens’ Colligo chipsets and Avago’s extended reach AFBR-709HDZ transceivers, the solution, they say, enables a new generation of HD video distribution for applications such as hospitality video system, video surveillance and digital signage.
“Avago is pleased to take part in this collaboration leveraging our proven high performance, small form factor fiber optic transceivers to enable a plethora of HDBaseT applications over fiber cabling. As HDBaseT technology becomes mainstream, we expect fiber optic solutions to play a pivotal role in expanding market applications for HDBaseT, ” said Steve Shultis, Director of Marketing, Fiber Optic Products Division, Avago Technologies.
“The extraordinary distance is achieved thanks to unique line coding and error correction capabilities present in the Valens’ Colligo chipsets. The Colligo family brings increased functionalities and improved performance to HDBaseT technology. By transmitting HDBaseT over fiber, Colligo maximizes the transmission range to unprecedented levels, bringing more flexibility and cost savings to installers and integrators, ” said Micha Risling, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Valens.
The HDBaseT fiber transmission solution will be showcased in the HDBaseT Alliance’s booth (7-E190) at ISE 2015 in Amsterdam RAI from February 10th to 12th.
