Helen Mirren Says David Beckham is ‘Unbelievably Beautiful’

Helen Mirren + David Beckham

Dame Helen Mirren thinks retired football star David Beckham is “unbelievably beautiful, ” but then again, she doesn’t think beauty is all that important anymore. In fact, she thinks there needs to be another word invented to express that certain…something…that attracts.

The 69 year old actress said, according to iol.co. “I don’t really like the word ‘beauty.’ There are physically beautiful people in the world– David Beckham, for instance, is unbelievably beautiful — then there are people who are not beautiful, but are very attractive because their personality, energy, brilliance, genius: all kinds of things.  So I have a resistance to the word ‘beautiful.’I wish we could find another word that takes it away from physical beauty and brings it more into the world of true attractiveness.”

Mirren said one good thing about getting older is that she doesn’t worry about her looks as much as she used to, but she still does fuss over attractiveness at times. “I think all women worry to some degree. And I don’t think men are exempt, ” said Mirren. She also confessed that she isn’t nearly as confident as she seems, but “I’ve had to be in my work and in my life. It’s a problem. It’s my problem. I’ve got to deal with it.”
