We also get to see Helen McCrory, who played Madame Kali in a small role in the first season, smoking what may or may not be a cigarette while lying in a bath filled with blood. The character will be the central villain in season two.

And Rory Kinnear appears too for a brief moment. He played Frankenstein’s monster in the first season and fans have been hoping he will return for the second.

The show’s first season was a veritable who’s who of horror characters with vampires, werewolves, Dr. Frankenstein and even Dorian Gray. The trailer hints that it may now be adding the Phantom of the Opera.

Penny Dreadful co-stars Josh Hartnett and former James Bond Timothy Dalton. Its second season will premiere on April 26th.
