Mort Zuckerman, U.S. News and World Report Chairman and Editor-in-Chief and publisher of the New York Daily News, appeared on the McLaughlin group to discuss the Paris terror attacks, Mexico’s cartel problem and the possibility of Jeb Bush as the Republican frontrunner for the office of President in 2016.
Jeb Bush has formed an exploratory committee and has resigned from public boards, so there is no mystery that he may be preparing to run. Many cite Bush’s advantages, such as, of course, his family connection, and how that can secure large donations and support.

However, Mort Zuckerman thinks it is more than his family and his ability to catch donors. Mentioning that he observed Bush speak, Zuckerman said, “He has real talent. He was an extraordinary governor and an extraordinary speaker … He was phenomenal, and everyone in that room knew it. Jeb Bush is totally informed about the issues facing this country. He is not a right winger in the Republican party.”
The “not a right winger” comment got a laugh from Eleanor Clift of the Daily Beast, who said, “Yes he is!” and (frankly) right winger Pat Buchanan said, “Why You were gesturing towards me!”
Mort Zuckerman has been described as a “long time Democrat, ” although he said publicly that he regretted voting for President Obama. “I have made many mistakes in my life. He has been a disappointment as a President of the United States, ” Zuckerman said prior to Obama’s re-election. Then he said, “Mitt Romney has a deeper and broader understanding of how the economy works… than Obama.”
