Boyhood is a 2014 American coming-of-age drama from the Weinstein Brothers’ production company, written and directed by Richard Linklater and starring Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater and Ethan Hawke. The film was shot intermittently over an eleven-year period from May 2002 to October 2013, showing the growth of a young boy and his older sister to adulthood.

It is notable in that the entire production – cast and crew alike – took 12 years off between filming the story of the five year old and the story of the 18 year old.

Both Arquette and the film have won awards from all sorts of critics’ associations around the U.S. and have been nominated for Golden Globe Awards. They are also odds on favorites for Oscar nominations.
