To paraphrase one of the great late comic Lenny Bruce’s most famous routines, there is no such thing as half Jewish. Jewish law says that you are a Jew if your mother was a Jew – even if your father was not – and you are not a Jew if she was not. But there are some exceptions. For example, if the son of just a Jewish father, but not mother, is famous for having done something good then its, “you know he’s half Jewish!” But if he isfamous for doing something bad and his mother was Jewish, but not father, then its, “you know he’s only half Jewish!”
Here at JBN we use a much looser standard for a person’s Jewish connections when we decide whether or not to write about him or her. For the purposes of this top ten list, if any actor, director, writer or producer of a movie was Jewish then it was eligible for consideration.
