Just when you thought Salesforce had “arrived.” CEO Marc Benioff waxes effusive about the Wave, according to VB. The Wave is a cloud service for visualizing data, and Benioff thinks it has the potential of raising $1 billion of annual revenue.
Salesforce is big, but the Wave could make it even bigger, even big enough to rival Benioff’s former employee, Oracle. The Wave is seeing big clients early, such as GE, EMC and Verizon. Benioff said, “We have never seen faster uptick and faster traction when it comes to a new product, and that gives us an incredible level of excitement.”

The Wave is already available in app stores, providing, as Benioff calls it, “analytics for the rest of us, ” but the potential is far greater, and can create a platform off which other apps can be built.
