The upcoming remake of the 1959 classic Ben-Hur has traded one Israeli actress from a super hero movie for another. Ayelet Zurer has reportedly been cast to play Judah Ben-Hur’s mother Naomi.
The new Wonder Woman, Israeli Gal Gadot, recently backed out of playing another character in the new movie which is due out in 2016 because of a scheduling conflict with the upcoming Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Ironically, Zurer played Superman’s biological Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van in 2013’s Man of Steel.
Zurer’s agent, Boaz Ben-Zion, was quoted as saying, “We are very proud to be part of Ayelet Zurer’s activity in Israel and abroad. In December, before the ‘Ben-Hur’ shooting begins, she is expected to visit Israel.”
Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston stars as Judah Ben-Hur, a Judean nobleman betrayed into slavery by his best friend the Roman Messala.
Zurer will continue to take part in the super hero universe as she will appear in an upcoming television series based on Marvel Comics’ Daredevil. Until now the 44 year old’s biggest role came starring opposite Tom Hanks in Angels and Demons, the 2009 sequel to the Da Vinci Code.
