If Steve Carrel gets his first Oscar nomination for his performance in the new movie Foxcatcher he would have Howard Stern to thank for it. At least that is what the actor told Stern while visiting his radio show this week.
Howard Stern told Carrel that when he first saw the film he said to himself that Carrel would definitely get an Academy Award for it. “You hit all the marks, ” stern told the actor.

Stern also promised to promote an Oscar campaign on his show for Carrel.
In response to Howard Stern’s comment, “I feel you [Carrel] should thank me when you win the Academy Award, ” Carrel said, “I’ll make you a deal. If that happens, I will thank you.”
Carell also told Stern about how awkward he felt going back to his home town for a 60 Minutes Interview. Apparently, Carrel hated the idea of seeing himself in the interview so much that he refused to watch it and instead asked his wife to tell him about it.
“Do you think that’s why they chose you to play this [crazy] guy? They say that all comedians are fucking crazy, ” Stern asked Carrel referring to the fact that the actor got his start in comedy.
“You don’t seem like a dark angry guy, but that darkness must live in you, ” Stern said to Carrel.
“I think that darkness lives in everyone, ” answered Carrel. “Everyone thinks they’re weirder than they actually are.”
Due out on Friday, Foxcatcher tells the true story of millionaire John du Pont, of the Du Pont family, who bankrolled the training of Wrestler Mark Schultz (played by Channing Tatum) for the 1988 Olympics which were held in Seoul, South Korea. The movie co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller and Vanesa Redgrave.
It was directed by Academy Award nominee Bennett Miller (Moneyball).
The movie review site Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 93% rating.
Carrel wears a prosthetic nose in the movie to make him look more like the real life man who he portrays. While appearing on Good Morning America, the actor pointed out that wearing a fake nose helps one get an Oscar. Robert (Raging Bull), Nicole Kidman (The Hours) and Jose Ferrer (Cyrano de Bergerac) all won Oscars doing just that.
