Matthew Brooks, leader of the Republican Jewish Coalition, told Haaretz what the GOP victory in the Senate can mean for the Jews, particularly for Israel.
“The Republicans have made significant gains and the American People have clearly spoken and clearly want a different direction for the country.” Especially, as indicated by Brooks, with foreign policy regarding Israel and threats against it by Iran. “Obama is going to have real tsuris because he is not going to have (former Senate majority leader) Harry Reid to block and tackle for him.”

Brooks told Haaretz that he thinks that, as a result, sanctions against the Islamic Republic could become more likely (a policy the President has been opposed to), and that strikes against Iran may be possible. While American Jews voted for Democrats by a wide 69% to 28% margin, there have been increasing criticisms by American Jews and Israelis about Obama’s policies regarding Israel, particularly in the wake of chickenshitgate just a week before the mid-term elections.
