Sam Neill to Play Jewish Historian Jospehus in CBS Masada Mini-Series

The actor Sam Neill has been chosen to play the Roman-era Jewish historian Josephus in a CBS Miniseries based on Alice Hoffman’s “The Dovekeepers” a story describing the experience of women who fought as the last stronghold in Judea was attacked by the Romans. The miniseries “The Dovekeepers” is produced by Roma Downy and Mark Burnett and is scheduled for 2015, as reported by UPI.

The story is a controversial one, as it depicts the mass suicide the ancient Jews, who refused to be taken captive by the Romans. The incident, recounted in Latin by Jewish historian Josephus, was depicted in the film Masada starring Peter O’Toole.

Sam Neill, was the voice of Allomere, in the fantasy legend film, “Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga’ Hoole, ” and had roles in “Jurassic Park, ” “The Piano” and the TV series “The Tudors.” Downey said, “Sam is a wonderfully exciting choice to bring Josephus to life in this gripping story of Masada.”
