Siklu Picked by TowerStream to Provide Wireless Tech

SmallCell

Siklu, an Israeli producer of wave systems, has been selected by America’s TowerStream, a leading 4G and small cell rooftop tower company, to provide its Gigabit wireless backhaul for TowerStream’s fixed wireless and small cell locations.

Siklu delivers Gigabit capacity millimeter wave wireless backhaul solutions operating in the 60, 70 and 80 GHz bands, ideal for dense, capacity-hungry urban broadband networks. The company has sold over 13, 500 EtherHaul E-band units worldwide to service providers, mobile operators, wireless security network operators and enterprises, leading the millimeter wave radio with a 30% share. It’s all weather radios have been deployed and are running smoothly in all climates, through monsoons and hurricanes, making them the most field-proven in the industry, according to Siklu.

TowerStream owns, operates, and leases Wi-Fi and Small Cell rooftop tower locations to cellular phone operators, tower, Internet and cable companies and hosts a variety of customers on its network in major cities across the U.S. from Boston to Los Angeles.

Siklu says that it was chosen by Towerstream because its systems offer reliable high throughput and simple and fast deployments in dense urban areas, delivering an effective cost per megabit solution. The company chose Siklu’s EtherHaul-1200 E-band radio, for its reliable, future-proof gigabit throughput.

“Siklu’s technology is a great fit where traditional common carrier path frequencies are saturated. The millimeter wave spectrum has particularly favorable characteristics for city deployments, ” said Arthur Giftakis, Vice President of Engineering and Network Operations at Towerstream.

In addition, Towerstream benefited from the easy and fast installation features of the EtherHaul radio. It operates over the lightly licensed E-band spectrum, with the advantages of rapid registration and low licensing fees. The radios’ small profile satisfies building owner requirements while allowing for quick installation.

“Siklu offered the reliability and capacity we needed, ” added Giftakis, noting that Towerstream has so far installed dozens of EtherHaul radios in its rooftop network, in various locations.

“The EtherHaul radios are based on proprietary advanced all-silicon integration, which greatly increases reliability. It also allows us to reduce costs so that we can deliver an unbeatable price per megabit, ” explained Ilan Moshe, General Manager of Siklu’s North American operations. “We are happy to be part of Towerstream’s rapid network growth with our E-band product lines as well as our street-level connectivity product, the EtherHaul-600T, which operates in the unlicensed 60 GHz band.”
