ALGATECHNOLOGIES

Israel’s Algatechnologies, a rapidly growing biotechnology company, specializing in the commercial cultivation of microalgae for food, medicines and cosmetics, will invest $17 million to double the production of its natural astaxanthin products.

Astaxanthin, is a dark red pigment found in algae and aquatic animals that is also an extremely powerful antioxidant. It has been shown to actually cross the blood-brain and blood-retina barriers, meaning it can positively impact disorders related to brain and the central nervous system.

Israel has been at the forefront of green technologies, the development of organic farming techniques like organic pesticides as well as the use of natural ingredients that are more ecofriendly for a long time now.

Founded in 1998 and based at Kibbutz Ketura in the south of Israel, Algatech is a world leader in the production and supply of AstaPure, a premium natural astaxanthin. The company states that this allows for a high-quality line of products, eliminating any risk of foreign objects, agricultural residues and microbial contamination.

Just last month the company announced the successful completion of stability studies for its AstaPure line of natural astaxanthin products. The research included the successful increase of a recommended retest date for its leading ingredient, 10% astaxanthin oleoresin, to four years at room temperature.

This breakthrough shelf-life extension was approved after completion of more than four years of real-time stability studies, indicating significantly better shelf life conditions than those of other brands.

“In light of the impressive results of the studies, we are able to extend AstaPure’s shelf-life at room temperature with complete confidence, providing that the packages remain sealed in their original containers, ” explained Oran Ayalon, PhD. , Director for R&D at Algatech. “In order to make sure the temperature is controlled and to further extend the shelf life, it is recommended to store the product in refrigerated conditions.”

“The successful completion of the stability tests is an important part of Algatech’s continuing efforts to provide customers the best, highest quality, sustainable and, importantly, most stable product, ” said Efrat Kat, Director of Marketing & Sales at Algatech.

Algatechnologies has a global presence through a well-established marketing network of selected distributors and agents. The company’s sales organization serves more than 30 countries, via an extensive network of exclusive distributors and by direct sales to multi-national customers. The company provides logistics, warehousing and lab support services.
