Who will replace the irreplaceable Joan Rivers on E!’s Fashion Police? Perhaps it can’t be done. The show was Joan Rivers. Her entire routine for decades hinged on self-deprecating humor coupled with cheerful, caustic celebrity bashing. The show was custom made for her. No one had the touch and the quick wit of Joan Rivers for calling out fashion travesties, and even the best in the business are likely to pale in comparison.

Melissa Rivers, Joan’s daughter and producer of Fashion Police, will likely make the decision, but it is safe to say, she is likely in no mood to make such a move now. After losing Chelsea Handler to Netflix, E! is faced with becoming nothing more than the Kardashian channel. Kelly Osbourne and the others in the panel with the job of passing harsh judgment on crimes of fashion will likely to continue, but when, how and if Rivers will be replaced is a mystery.

An E! official wrote a statement when asked this question; “Right now, we are mourning our beloved Joan. We will respond later with programming updates.”

As expected, no one is the mood right now to think about the unthinkable: programming and life itself without Joan Rivers.
