Nate Silver’s site, FiveThirtyEight, which gives pollster ratings, predicts a Republican edge in midterm elections. The site predicts Republicans have a 64% chance of taking the Senate. Midterm elections are usually poor for the incumbent President’s party regardless, but Obama has poor approval ratings, and got just 46% of the vote in 2012. Republicans are likely to win the six seats they need to dominate. With polling ambiguous and low voter turnout, there is likely political apathy, which often favors the opposing party. Given the lack of vehemence and general disapproval of the President, the Republicans might take the Senate in the midterm elections.
