Dr. Malphurs received his Ph.D. in Communication from Texas A&M University and has observed more than 100 oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court in pursuit of his research regarding the cognitive influence of courtroom communication. Author of Rhetoric and Discourse in Supreme Court Oral Arguments (Routledge 2013), he has applied his research across a wide variety of complex civil and criminal cases. Dr. Malphurs has published his research in Communication Law Review, Journal of Legal Communication and Rhetoric, Journal of American Culture, and The Jury Expert among others. His research has also been prominently covered by a variety of news sources, most notably the New York Times, NPR, and the Washington Post.

As a Jesuit alum at both the high school and college level, Dr. Malphurs remains committed to service for others, working closely with the Dallas legal community through pro bono services when his time permits. Dr. Malphurs has assisted the Human Rights Initiative, Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, the Collin and Tarrant County Prosecutors Offices, and various local attorneys with clients in need of assistance. He also serves on the executive board of the Pro Bono committee for DFWs chapter of the American Society of Trial Consultants, and welcomes anyone seeking pro bono trial services.
