Episode 4.2: The Purple Wedding
Oh, how we have all waited for this moment. The king – the evil, despicable, horrid little king has finally met his gruesome demise, and at his own wedding, no less. This was undoubtedly pure poetic justice after the events of season three’s Red Wedding. And this was undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and crowd-pleasing deaths on TV, ever. Joffrey – who, among his many shenanigans, had gleefully ordered the beheading of his fiancee’s father, as well as the ripping of the tongue from the mouth of a minstrel whose lyrics proved too topical – is poisoned while the festivities at his wedding are underway, and his poor uncle Tyrion is falsely accused and imprisoned – a course that sets up one of the most captivating plots in the show’s run.
