Episode 4.10: Tyrion’s revenge
Tyrion is rescued by his brother and is free to leave. Hooray. But he decides to go to his father’s quarters, where he finds a naked Shae in his father’s bed. Oh no. Tyrion finally hits his breaking point and becomes the murderer he had been previously accused of being. He strangles his former lover and proceeds to his father’s lavatory. It isn’t Tywin’s willingness to have his son murdered for a crime he did not commit which pushes the younger Lannister to do what he does next. It is Tyrion’s love of Shae and his father’s disrespect for her that brings him to send a crossbow bolt to his father’s chest, while the elder man is sitting on the toilet. Tywin Lannister, who was greedy for honor just as he was for power, dies in the least honorable way imaginable – on the toilet, with a dead prostitute in his bed.
