Last night was the annual White House correspondents dinner, when the President, the White House press corps and lots of celebrities get together and roast of each other viciously, though at the same time all in good fun.
President Obama duly complied, with many self-deprecating lines about himself including, particularly, the recent roll-out of his health care plan.
A couple of cameo performances that stole the show however, were to be found in a video “starring” Vice President Joe Biden, who is playing himself and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, the famous former star of Seinfeld, who plays her current character, Vice President Selina Meyer, in the HBO hit show “Veep.”
As props Joe Biden adopts regulation aviator sunglasses, a leather jacket and takes charge of a bright yellow Chevrolet Corvette for the evening for high jinks with Julia in and around the White House. Any oblique references to GM’s current recall troubles, over faulty ignition switches, were ruthlessly suppressed for the night however.

After being scolded by Michelle Obama for surreptitiously eating ice cream in her kitchen they variously end up in a tattoo parlour where Nancy Pelosi is having a little work done and end up at the local rag The Washington Post, setting up complimentary political headlines for themselves.
It is all really very well done, and all the pols on screen act surprisingly well – particularly the real Veep Joe Biden.
As for Julia Louis-Dreyfuss we know she is a great star, but here she is clearly out-shone by the amateurs for the evening. Luckily, she is also part of the Louis Dreyfuss commodities family, so probably doesn’t really need the money anyway.
So why don’t you sit back and watch the video and see for yourself.
