With the 20th anniversary of the first episode of the hit TV sitcom “Friends” as well as the 10th of the last episode both falling this year, speculation was rife among the gossip columns, that  a special reunion version was on the cards.

However, joint producers Marta Kauffman and David Crane have dashed the hopes of millions of Friends fans throughout the world by stating unequivocally, that there is no possibility that  Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and  David Schwimmer, the six  main characters will be getting together for one last time.

In a recent statement Ms. Kauffman confirmed what everyone had feared that there were no plans to do an update on the series, and certainly not a spinoff as had been suggested on several occasions in the media over the years, such as “ Grown-Up Friends or Friends Kids or Baby Friends.”

“We always knew and felt very strongly that not only would it never happen, but also that we never wanted to be part of it because it so rarely works. We just felt like this show is about a certain time in your life, and once you’re past that, the show is over, ” explained Martha in a recent interview.

The news will come as a bitter pill to swallow for many devoted “Friends” followers, although there will be many who prefer to remember the cast as they were in their heyday, with each of them succeeding in building up a successful career in television and movies since they  left the set of the show for the last time.

And with “Friends” being among the most re-run television series in history there will always be an opportunity for devotees of the show to relive their memories.

Individually Marta Kauffman spent three years  as an executive producer on the TV show “Related”  during 2005 to 2006, while David  Crane, in partnership with Jeffrey Klarik,  produced and created  a sitcom on behalf of the BBC  under the title of “ Episodes”  which starred former Friends star Matt LeBlanc.
