Julius Genachowski, best known by many in his role as Chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a post which he held during the years 2009 to 2013 is completing his activities once again in the private sector by joining the Board of Directors at Syniverse, who specialize in providing technology and business services for the telecommunications industry.
Genachowski will come to the role with a wealth of experience both in the private as well as the public sector. During his time in charge at the FCC, Julius was responsible for extending broadband access across the United States, as well as speeding up introduction of mobile networks as well as considerably enhancing public safety communications.
Announcing the appointment Jeff Gordon, Syniverse’s President and CEO confirmed that he is working forward to working with Genachowski in the belief that his extensive experience overseeing mobile and telecom initiatives will provide considerable benefits for the company.
In response Genachowski expressed his excitement at joining Syniverse at a time when the company is continuing its upward progression, as well as delivering on their promise to make mobile a more workable alternative for the ever-increasing variety of players in the mobile ecosystem.
Julius Genachowski graduating as a BA in History magna cum laude in 1985. After a short spell as the Editor of the Columbia Daily Spectator, and later as assistant to well-known New York Congressman Chuck Schumer in Washington, D.C.
It was during his spell in DC that Julius Genachowski enrolled for the Harvard Law School, eventually graduating as a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude in 1991.
It was during that time that he formed an association with another young up-and-coming law student by the name of Barack Obama, an association that has lasted for more than twenty years. In 2010 President Obama honored his friend by appointing him to head the United States delegation during the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
