David Hornik has been named winner of the prestigious award of Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist of the Year for 2013. The award is sponsored by leading international accountants Deloitte, California-based international legal practice Cooley, commercial realtors Cresa, financial consultants RGP, Silicon Valley Bank as well as Wells Fargo Insurance Services.
The announcement that David would be this year’s recipient of the Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist of the Year for 2013 was made during the 2013 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 award ceremony held recently at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.
According to a spokesperson from Deloitte, David Hornik is recognized as being a game changer who has succeeded in turning technology investment into an art form, with a remarkable knack of recognizing and nurturing companies with potential that is almost almost unprecedented. “David’s contribution to the venture community through his lectures, writings and knowledge makes him a more than worthy recipient of this year’s award. ”Summed up the Deloitte spokesperson
From its inception 1995, August Capital have provided funding for a V8 group of entrepreneurs whose current aggregate market capitalization stands at more than over $250 billion, and generate annual income in excess of $75 billion.
David Hornik, gained an M.Phil in Criminology and his Master’s Degree in Philosophy from Cambridge University in England as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Music from Stanford University.
David later went on to become a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he focused upon the growing importance of convergence of technology and the law.
After completing his University education , David began his professional career as an intellectual property and corporate attorney at the Venture Law Group, later joining Perkins Coie in their San Francisco Bay Area offices, later spending some time practicing his profession in New York at the offices of Cravath, Swaine & Moore
For more than 10 years, David has worked as a venture capitalist at August Capital, specializing in information technology companies.
Hornik is also the author of VentureBlog, regarded as being the first venture capital blog, as well as VentureCast, the first venture capital podcast. David is also responsible for the founding as well as being the executive producer of the annual Lobby conference, where thought leaders from all aspects of the digital media ecosystem get together to discuss developments in the industry.
