Winner of the Dan David prize for 2013 has received in appointment from the President of the US
Barak Obama has nominated the winner of the Dan David prize for 2013, the senior French economist, Professor Esther Duflo (39) to be a member of the President’ Global Development Council.
Duflo deals with social and economic strategies to eliminate poverty, and their direct effect on preventing sickness and death. Duflo discovered that in certain third world countries air pollution in the home caused by the use of primitive fuels for cooking purposes is the cause of about 4% of all premature death and disability. This is a situation that can be prevented.
Duflo is one of five winners of the prestigious Dan David prize named for the Jewish businessman-philanthropist Dan David and it is an international prize awarded in Israel similar to the Nobel Prize. The prize fund is endowed with $100 million and its winners are categorized by time: past, present and future. For each period the award is $1 million for the winner.
The winers donate 10% of their awarders to encourage young researchers studying for their doctorates and post-doctorates in Israel and the world.

Two Million dollars were raised at an Israeli-American Council (IAC) fundraising event
Two million dollars were raised for the benefit of the Israeli people in LA, at an Israeli American Council (IAC) fundraising event in Los Angeles that was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and which was attended by billionaires Shari Arison , Miriam and Sheldon Adelson and, General (res.) Danny Gold., the person responsible for developing the iron dome defense system
The largest contributors at the gala evening were Miriam and Sheldon Adelson who contributed 250 thousand dollars., and Debby and Naty Seidoff who also contributed 250 thousand dollars . Gila and Adam Milstein contributed 200 thousand dollars.
The owner of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Benny Elgam contributed 180 thousand dollars,
Miri and Itzik Shefer contributed 100 thousand dollars, and Shawn and Dorit Evenhaim contributed 100 thousand dollars .
The chairman and founder of the IAC is Shawn Evenhaim who holds the controlling interest in California Builders one of the leading real estate corporations in Los Angeles and who donated the Jewish school Kadima in LA. The mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa nominated him to be an advisor on the subject of improving the process of obtaining building permits in the city.
