Larry David’s new Broadway play Fish in the Dark is a financial success. It’s still only in previews and has already brought in more than $1 million.
David both wrote and stars in the play. It set a box office record for the Cort Theater, grossing $1, 177, 593. It also somehow managed to show more than 100% attendance. Tickets for the play range from $49 in the back of the balcony to $425 for a “premium” seat in the center of the orchestra.

Jason Alexander, who portrayed Larry David’s alter ego George on Seinfeld, tweeted, “Larry David’s play Fish in the Dark is so sold out, even I can’t get a ticket. You know what this means — worlds cannot collide.”
In “Fish in the Dark, ” David plays the son of a dying family patriarch. We will not find out what the critics think about it until March, which will determine if the audiences continue to come. For now the high attendance might only be due to David’s star power, but should the critics pan the show then it will probably not last long.
Fish in the Dark also stars Rosie Perez, Jerry Adler, Rita Wilson and Ben Shenkman.
