According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, virtual reality (VR) technology is still ‘rough’ but will be an “important trend” in the future, VR Focus said.
He addressed the topic during a recent question and answer session in Bogotá, Colombia. “You guys all remember the first mobile phones were terrible, and that’s kind of the stage where we are now with virtual reality and augmented reality, ” he said, according to Gamespot. “It’s extremely early stage and the early stuff is very rough still, but I think that’s going to be a really important trend.”

“We’re really excited about that as well, ” Zuckerberg concluded. “We’re building that with Oculus which I think is by far the leader in virtual reality and it’s going to be very exciting to see how that develops.”
One of the biggest technology stories of 2014 was the social network giant’s $2 billion acquisition of Oculus VR, the maker of the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD), VR Focus said.
Recently Oculus VR showcased its latest prototype for the Oculus Rift, named Crescent Bay, at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. There the company revealed new HRTF audio technology that is to be added into an upcoming software development kit. Talk of the anticipated consumer version of the HMD is rife at the moment, although Oculus VR itself has yet to announce any details on such a product at this point in time. With luck, those details will arrive in 2015, the report said.
Meanwhile, businesswoman Randi Zuckerberg, sister of the Facebook CEO, will headline a virtual reality conference on Tuesday in Miami Beach, the South Florida Business Journal said.
Zuckerberg will give a keynote speech to kick off the Business Innovation & Growth Summit at the New World Center., the report said.
Miami Beach-based technology firm Next Galaxy Corp. has hosted the event each year since its debut in 2009, the Journal said.
