You can find out a lot about Jack Black’s childhood from a new 3 minute long animated video. As far as his present, the actor whose mother was born Jewish and whose father converted to Judaism has told his fans not to expect him to appear in a new television series based on the 2003 hit film “School of Rock.”
The cartoon is part of the “California Inspires Me” series by California Sunday Magazine and Google Play. It opens with Black saying, “Yah, I’m from the South! From the deep, deep south of Southern California.” Black explains that he grew up in a surfing town but he did not fit into the surfing culture and so he was an outsider.

Once after losing a tooth he left a note for the tooth fairy asking for Farrah Fawcett’s phone number instead of money. Like all good boys growing up in the 1970s Black liked the star of Charlie’s Angels. Apparently his father obliged Jack and left him the number of a special Farrah Fawcett fan hotline which he called.
The School of Rock television program is being developed for Nickelodeon. While promoting his new HBO series The Brink at the television Critics Association press tour Black said. “School of Rock is cropping up in the strangest places, on Nickelodeon and on Broadway with Andrew Lloyd Webber. And I have nothing to do with any of them. It’s kind of like one of my kids grew up and did things without my approval.”
The actor added, “My plate is pretty full. I don’t like looking back, I like looking forward.”
Black will co-star with Tim Robbins and Pablo Schreiber in the ten episode dark comedy on HBO called The Brink due to premiere later this year. According to HBO the show is about what happens when a rogue general seizes control of Pakistan and its nuclear arsenal, the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of three improbable Americans: Secretary of State Walter Larson (Robbins), lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot (Black) and ace Navy fighter pilot Zeke Tilson (Schreiber). From the turbulent streets of the Middle East, to the White House Situation Room, to an aircraft carrier on the Red Sea, these three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War Three.
