Peter Frates, the Boston college basketball player who was diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gherig’s disease, and started the ice bucket challenge, celebrated his 30th birthday at Gillette Stadium, as reported by the Daily Mail. He was joined by Patriots team owner Robert Kraft and 70, 000 fans in the Patriots game against the Buffalo Bills. Jonathan Kraft, president of the Patriots, praised Frates and said, “What an amazing young man he is. He is a hero.”
When Frates was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 27, his family wanted to do something to raise money to find a cure for the disease. The ice bucket challenge this summer was a campaign that involved many celebrities, and $100 million was raised to find a cure.
