Ordinarily movies based on comic book heroes get panned by the critics and/or bomb at the box office. The last Superman movie was just awful. Also their sequels get progressively worse even if they make more money than their predecessors. This was the case with the second installment in the Thor franchise.
But not so with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was much better than the first film, getting rave reviews, making the movie both a critical and box office success. Movie review site Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 89% rating. It also grossed $714, 083, 572 worldwide, $259.8 of which came from North America.
After what was basically just a cameo in the second Iron Man movie and appearing as part of an ensemble cast in The Avengers, this time Scarlett Johansson was the main star of the movie opposite Chris Evans.
The film was about a nefarious plot by Captain America’s main foe from the comic books, Hydra, to take control of Shield, the world organization that protects us all from super villains, with the help of moles planted within its hierarchy.
Needless to say there were a lot of loud explosions, things and people getting blown up and shooting of guns for people who like that sort of thing.
Seeing ScarJo jump around for 2 hours in a tight outfit wasn’t bad either.
