Facebook’s oldest user, Anne Stoehr, passed away at 114. After living on a farm in Minnesota until she was 112, Anna Stoehr started a new life in an apartment and a new addition to her life–Facebook. Her husband passed away in 1998, of course, her five children were grown and she needed some social stimulation. Her son, Harlan introduced her to the world of social media, the place of great communication and profound miscommunication, where enemies are made as easily as friends, and sometimes debates get out of control.
But Anna Stoehr seemed ready to jump into the brave new world of social media. She ran into a problem; when asked to state her age, the oldest she was allowed to list was 105. Not usually one to fib about her age, Anna Stoehr found it necessary to join Facebook. When Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg found out about it, he had his assistant attempt to call her to apologize for the age limit, but she missed the call because of a medical appointment.

Last year, Stoehr threw out the first pitch at the Minnesota Twins game and asked if she should pitch it overhand or underhand. Harlan said, “She loved gardening and always had huge flower gardens and strawberries. She grew all kinds of things, and when an apple tree on the farm blew down, she planted another one. She was 105 at the time.”
