Forest City Ratner is starting work again on its stalled pre-fabricated apartment building project located at the corner of Dean St. and Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn. Construction was halted on the new building, part of the multibillion dollar Atlantic Yards development project, after Ratner had a falling out with the Swedish firm Skanska over the nearby factory that produced the components for the project.
25 of the 150 workers there who were laid off last summer have been brought back to work and Forest City Ratner has said that it plans to rehire all of the people there, according to a report in NY1.com.

Foreman Dominic Hacksaw was quoted as saying, “We’re looking forward to something as far as compensation, money and start to work again right before the Christmas season.”
“This is the best way to rebuild the building is to use the same technology that we started it with and bring the people back to work and get our building finished, ” said Executive VP of Forest City Ratner Bob Sanna.
Only ten floors of the 32 story residential building had been completed before the work there stopped. This happened after Skanska and Ratner accused one another of various shortcomings and failures in the factory and eventually the two firms sued one another.
The fighting came to an end last month when Skanska agreed to let Ratner buy out its shares in the modular factory located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This paved the way for construction to begin again on the building.
