Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been making public new information about characters in the, possibly in an effort to milk some more magical milk out of this cow, and so on Tuesday, just before the lighting of the first light of Hanukkah, she revealed that at least one Hogwarts student was Jewish, UPI reported.
Rowling let the world know all about Jewish wizards during a Tuesday question-and-answer session on Twitter. A fan named Benjamin Roffman asked Rowling if there were any Jews like himself at the school.

“Jews like himself?” Seriously? I keep forgetting UPI is a Saudi owned service…
“@jk_rowling my wife said there are no Jews at Hogwarts. I’m a Jew so I assume she said it to be the only magical 1 in the family. Thoughts?”
Reply tweet: “@benjaminroffman Anthony Goldstein, Ravenclaw, Jewish wizard, ” she replied.
Wizard Anthony Goldstein, how original. Good thing she didn’t name him Emanuel Goldstein, the character in George Orwell’s 1984 that everybody hates for one hour every day.
According to Harry Potter Wiki, Anthony was in the same year as Harry, Ron and Hermoine, but belonged to the house of Ravenclaw. And he served in Dumbledore’s Army in their fifth year.
Wiki states Goldstein, “is a relatively common Jewish surname, which is a possible indication of Jewish heritage.”
Yes, but Anthony is not so common among us, Jew folks, except for one politician by that name who extended the definition of a selfie to previously uncharted places.
“To everyone asking whether their religion/belief/non-belief system is represented at Hogwarts: the only people I never imagined there are Wiccans, ” Rowling then tweeted.
