Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger, gave plenty of advice on Elle about the breakup season. No, that wasn’t a typo. December is breakup season, and not just holiday season. For some reason, whether it is due to Thanksgivings that don’t go well with a steady and the folks back home or dread of having to buy a fancy gift, many breakups happen during this time of year.

Patti Stanger, the supreme matchmaker, was on hand with tips on how to handle a breakup. First of all, she suggested defriending and basically cutting off all contact with an ex. Friendships post breakup are possible, but only after a few months have passed at least and if there is no residual attraction. Avoid shaving your head, getting a tattoo or doing anything you might regret. Drowning your troubles in a sixpack or a carton of ice cream is less a danger with a high protein, low fat diet.

Relationship detox can last three to six months but “time heals all wounds, ” Stranger says, bolstering the old expression. Stanger was raised in Short Hills New Jersey by Ira and Rhoda Stanger, both of whom were matchmakers.
