There is talk that Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross may do what he has perhaps wanted to do for a long time; fire coach Joe Philbin and hire Jim Harbaugh, as speculated by Almando Salguero of the Miami Herald. The Dolphins have been underperforming for years, at least since 2008. Despite this, Ross has made optimistic comments that the team has the talent to make the playoffs. Perhaps the problem is not with the players, but with the coach, Joe Philbin.
There was talk that Ross wanted to hire Jim Harbaugh, coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 2011. At that time, Harbaugh has taken his team to NFL title games in 2011 and 2013 and to the Superbowl in 2012. While there is speculation that the New York Jets or the Oakland Raiders might want to hire Harbaugh, Salguero thinks it is more likely he will take up a coaching job with the Dolphins, if offered. In addition, Harbaugh and Ross both have that Michigan connection.
