A Drunk Depardieu Yells ‘Merde’ at Audience During Jewish Poet Recital

Gerard Depardieu

Gerard Depardieu shocked an audience at a solemn commemoration of World War I last Sunday in Brussels, after arriving drunk and then shouting obscenities, The Regina Leader-Post reported.

Depardieu, 65, recently said he could drink as much as 14 bottles of wine a day. The report did not include speculation as to how many bottles the actor had consumed on Sunday.

At the Brussels event, Depardieu was expected to recite the poetry of Barbara (stage name of Monique Andrée Serf, a Jewish French chansonnier who, at age 10, had to go into hiding during the German occupation of France in World War II).

The inebriated Depardieu began his performance with waving his hands in the air, and shouting “merde” at the top of his lungs at the shocked audience at the Maison de la Radio.

We’re told shocking events are doubly shocking in Brussels, where hardly anything ever happens.

Depardieu’s antics drew scattered laughter and applause, but many in the audience were appalled, according to The Regina Leader-Post.
