LifeBEAM, an Israeli developer of bio-sensing technology, will play a pivotal role in helping Samsung compete head to head with Apples smart watches. The company’s bio-sensing algorithm has been embedded in the new Samsung Simband reference design platform for wearable devices.
The company boasts that the technology will allow Simband reference design users to more accurately measure heart rate and calories directly from their wrists. The partnership between LifeBEAM and Samsung was revealed at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco.

A pioneer in bio-sensing hardware, analytics and software, LifeBEAM is best known for its hat’s and helmets which have sensors embedded in them which allow athletes to keep track of their vital signs while wearing them. The company also offers an array of products for B2B clients, consumers and government agencies. It is based in Israel with operation centers in the US and China.
Samsung says that its Simband is not a product but a reference design. “It’s our concept of what a smart health device should be. Devices based on the Simband platform will be able to gather vital diagnostic information – from your heart rate to your skin’s electrical conductivity, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ” the company asserts.
“Samsung is an innovative company with a vision to power the next wave of bio-sensing applications, and we see the company as one of our most strategic partners in bringing LifeBEAM technology to the consumer market, ” said Omri Yoffe, CEO of LifeBEAM. “During our collaboration on the Simband project, we’ve found a valuable synergy between our core capabilities and Samsung’s portfolio of wearable devices. Together, we’re giving consumers the ability to collect, integrate, display and communicate accurate biometrics in real-time. The wide range of applications in sports, health and medicine are very exciting.”
LifeBEAM collaborated with the Samsung Strategy and Innovation Center (SSIC) to embed its bio-sensing technology in the Simband platform. Application developers will be able to leverage LifeBEAM’s bio-sensing algorithms using the Samsung SAMIIO software platform, a cloud-based open software platform capable of bringing together diverse data from a variety of sources for analysis. An SDK for the SAMIIO platform was made available on November 12 at the Samsung Developer Conference.
