Melissa Rivers Cries Like a Drag Queen At Fundraiser

Our House Grief Support Center's House Of Hope Gala 2014

At her first public Red Carpet event since her mother Joan River’s death on September 4th, Melissa Rivers carried on the family tradition of humor. The event was the Our Grief Support center’s annual gala which raised over $640, 000 for support and counseling for those who have lost loved ones, as reported by E!

Melissa Rivers was honored last year by the organization, and was given the Good Grief Award as a tribute to the way the Fashion Police producer handled the suicide of her father, Edgar Rosenberg, in 1987.

Melissa told the audience, “Seven weeks ago, I lost my mother. And I feel like I’m a Hair Club for Men ad. Not only am I the ambassador, but I’m the client too.” When she started tearing up, Melissa added, “Does everyone know what a drag queen cry is? So you don’t mess up your make up, you have to lean over. So I’m crying like a drag queen.”

Andrew Krasny co-hosted the event along with Rivers and Karina Smirnoff and Tony Dovolani of Dancing with the Stars opened the event with a routine dedicated to Matthew Geffner, former Our House volunteer.
