Toronto Voters at a Head-to-Head to Replace Ford

John Tory

Toronto voters head to the polls in  race to replace mayor Rob Ford, after scandals over his crack-cocaine use gave way to sympathy in his battle with cancer. The race centers around Progressive Conservative leader John Tory, former New Democratic Party MP Olivia Chow and Doug Ford, Rob’s brother and former campaign manager, as reported by the Guardian.

Even though he entered the race late. Doug Ford has 32% of the vote, but John Tory is 6 points ahead of that. Chow has 20% of the vote, according to polls. Tory, according to the Guardian, has waged an aggressive campaign, touring all 44 wards of the city. A cartoon depicting Olivia Chow as Chairman Mao riding into power on the coat tails of a deceased husband  has raised tensions in this already tense match. The cartoon was denounced s racist and sexist, which amid the scandal of the Ford brothers, raises Tory’s profile. We shall see the result.
