Dell’s management was complaining not long ago that it was under-distributed in Europe. Now that it has signed with Ingram Micro to handle its portfolio in the UK, its prayers are at least partly answered. Dell did have successful distribution, but it was somewhat fragmented, with different specialists handling specific portions of the portfolio. From October 3, Ingram is handling Dell’s client and enterprise solutions and software.
Intel had been deciding between Ingram Micro and Tech Data, and agreed to work with Ingram Micro. The channel will now account for a third of Dell’s revenues at $20 billion, and this number is expected to expand. Brent McCarty, managing director and vice president of Ingram Micro, said, “Partnering with Dell represents a huge incremental opportunity for Ingram Micro and elevates us to an unrivaled position as destination distributor, being the only U.K. supplier with a full portfolio of systems OEMs. To ensure all opportunities for channel growth are maximized, we have invested in additional support and made realignments in our business.”
